Though not released until 1983 the Avengers' self-titled record (aka The Pink Album) features the band's recorded output from 1977-78, from the glorious first wave of punk rock. The Avengers were San Francisco's preeminent punk band, led by Penelope Houston's snarling vocals and Greg Igranham's distorted guitar riffs, and one of the first anywhere to feature a female lead singer. Reissued on 2xCD and 180g LP. The 2CD version includes previously unreleased live and studio material. Click the image above for more info or to purchase a copy. "The Avengers were San Francisco's best punk band, in moments the best in the republic: fabulous songs, a snarling, confrontational presence, a primitive sound that could go anywhere." - Greil Marcus

No Other was a unviversal critical and commercial failure at the time of its release in 1974, but the years have been kind to it. Gene Clark, some 7 years removed from his time with The Byrds, wrote the songs in the quiet seclusion of his Mendocino home but recorded in the cocaine excess of '70s Los Angeles, and the result is the perfect amalgam of those two poles of Clark's personality. Sadly, his return to L.A.'s hedonism resulted in the dissolution of his marriage, but the tragedy sounds so damn good. A California singer-songwriter classic back in print on vinyl with reproductions of the original insert and poster. Click here or on the cover image for more info or to purchase a copy.

Folksongs & Ballads, by Tia Blake, is a very rare and sought after record, released only in France in 1971 and never before available on CD. A stunning selection of songs performed in a stripped down setting with Tia's achingly beautiful vocals taking center stage. A truly wonderful album, reissued here on CD with new notes from Tia herself, along with vintage photos, and bonus tracks taken from rehearsals and a scrapped CBC session that features the only known recordings of Tia's original songs. AMAZING. Click here or on the cover image for more info or to purchase a copy.

Wee Tam and the Big Huge were released simultaneously in 1968, a a 2LP set in the UK, and individually here in the US. We've meticulously reproduced the US editions and they look and sound great. Over 50 years since his discovery by ethnomusicologists Dr. Harry Oster and Richard Allen in the prison farm of Angola, Louisiana, what is it that makes the blues as sung and picked by Robert Pete Williams such a singular listening experience, unequaled elsewhere in that musical form? As Peter Guralnick, in his Feel Like Going Home book writes: It's difficult to approve the banalities of most blues singers after listening to Robert Pete Williams. More than anyone else he shatters the conventions of the form and refuses to rely upon any of the cliches, either of music or of lyric, which bluesman after bluesman will invoke. Instead he sings blues which reflect a unique and personal vision; he makes each song unmistakably his own.

Jimmy Scott is one of Jazz music's all-time great vocalists. Falling In Love Is Wonderful is his long out of print classic released in 1962 for Ray Charles' Tangerine label. Featuring Ray Charles on piano, this album was at the heart of a lawsuit between Tangerine and his previous label, Savoy, which resulted in the album being pulled from the shelves mere weeks after its initial release. As a result, this title was nearly impossible to find on vinyl, until now. Click on the cover image for more info and to purchase a copy.

Just in time for the holidays, Runt has six great new vinyl reissues. Two, by Bridget St. John, were originally released on John Peel's Dandelion Records. She's one of the great underheralded singer/songwriters of the late 60s, early 70s, Brit-folk movement. And, there's no better place to start than her 2nd, and best, LP "Songs For The Gentle Man", though "Thank You For..." is no slouch either. Two classics lovingly brought back to life by the 4 Men With Beards label. The other 4 LPs come from the vaults of the legendary Smithsonian Folkways label and include the incredible calypso-jazz of Rupert Clemendore & John Buddy Williams, the proto-hip-hop of Street And Gangland Rhythms, the spoken word/funk of Sarah Webster Fabio, and the Eastern-tinged out-jazz of East New York Ensemble de Music.
